What are Air Fryer Cheeseburger Egg Rolls?

Air Fryer Cheeseburger Egg Rolls are a fun appetiser inspired by the classic American cheeseburger.

Instead of serving the beef, cheese, and toppings inside a traditional burger bun, everything is wrapped inside an egg roll wrapper and cooked in the air fryer until golden and crispy.

The filling typically includes seasoned ground beef, shredded cheddar cheese, diced pickles, onion, mustard, and ketchup. These ingredients create that familiar cheeseburger flavour in every bite.

Cooking them in the air fryer gives the wrappers a crunchy texture without needing to submerge them in hot oil. They are easy to customise, simple to serve, and delicious with a variety of dipping sauces.

Think of them as mini cheeseburgers wrapped in crispy egg roll shells!

What are some other dipping sauces?

These cheeseburger egg rolls are delicious on their own, but serving them with a dipping sauce makes them even better.

Here are some tasty options to try:

  • Classic Burger Sauce: Combine mayonnaise, ketchup, mustard, pickle relish, and a little garlic powder for a creamy sauce that tastes just like your favourite burger dressing.
  • Ranch Dressing: Cool, creamy ranch is a delicious choice that balances the savoury beef and melted cheese.
  • Thousand Island Dressing: Its sweet, tangy flavour pairs perfectly with the cheeseburger filling.
  • Spicy Mayo: Mix mayonnaise with sriracha or your favourite hot sauce for a creamy dip with a little heat.
  • BBQ Sauce: A smoky, sweet barbecue sauce adds another layer of flavour.
  • Honey Mustard: Combine honey and mustard for a sweet and tangy dipping sauce.
  • Garlic Aioli: Creamy garlic aioli adds a rich, savoury flavour.
  • Ketchup and Mustard: Keep things simple with these classic burger condiments.

For a party platter, serve several dipping sauces in small bowls so everyone can choose their favourite.

How long do Air Fryer Cheeseburger Egg Rolls last?

These egg rolls are best enjoyed immediately after cooking, while the wrappers are still crispy and the cheese is warm and melted. However, you can safely store leftovers for another meal.

Refrigerator storage:

Allow the cooked egg rolls to cool slightly, then transfer them to an airtight container. Refrigerate within 2 hours of cooking at 40°F (4°C) or below.

They will keep for approximately 3–4 days.

For the best texture, place a paper towel in the container to help absorb excess moisture, and avoid stacking the egg rolls too tightly.

How to reheat leftovers:

The air fryer is the best way to bring back some of their crispy texture.

  1. Preheat your air fryer to 350°F (175°C), if recommended by your model.
  2. Arrange the egg rolls in a single layer.
  3. Reheat for approximately 3–5 minutes, turning halfway through if needed.
  4. Check that the centre is thoroughly heated before serving.

You can also reheat them in a conventional oven at 350°F (175°C) until hot. Microwaving is possible, but the wrappers will become softer rather than crispy.

When reheating leftovers, make sure the centre reaches 165°F (74°C).

Ingredients for Air Fryer Cheeseburger Egg Rolls

You only need a few simple ingredients to make these crispy cheeseburger egg rolls.

  • 1 lb (450g) ground beef: Lean ground beef works well because it provides plenty of flavour without releasing too much grease.
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese: Gives the filling that classic cheeseburger taste and delicious melted texture.
  • ½ cup finely diced onion: Adds sweetness and savoury flavour to the beef.
  • ¼ cup diced dill pickles: Brings a tangy crunch that makes the filling taste like a traditional cheeseburger.
  • 2 tablespoons ketchup: Adds a little sweetness and classic burger flavour.
  • 1 tablespoon yellow mustard: Gives the filling a gentle tang.
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder: Adds extra savoury flavour.
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder: Enhances the seasoning.
  • Salt and black pepper: Season according to your taste.
  • 12 egg roll wrappers: These form the crispy outside of the egg rolls.
  • 1 tablespoon water: Used to seal the edges of the wrappers.
  • Olive oil spray: Helps the wrappers turn golden and crispy in the air fryer.

Optional additions:

  • Crumbled cooked bacon
  • Finely chopped jalapeños
  • A little Worcestershire sauce
  • Diced tomatoes (well drained)
  • Extra shredded cheese

You can adjust the filling to suit your favourite cheeseburger toppings. Just avoid adding too much moisture, as a wet filling can make the wrappers soggy.

Can Air Fryer Cheeseburger Egg Rolls be frozen?

Yes! These cheeseburger egg rolls are excellent for freezing, making them a convenient appetiser or snack whenever you need something quick.

You can freeze them either before or after cooking.

Freezing Uncooked Egg Rolls

Freezing them before cooking is a great option if you want freshly crispy egg rolls whenever you fancy them.

  1. Prepare the cheeseburger filling and allow it to cool completely.
  2. Assemble the egg rolls, making sure each wrapper is tightly sealed.
  3. Arrange the uncooked egg rolls in a single layer on a parchment-lined baking tray.
  4. Freeze for approximately 1–2 hours, or until firm.
  5. Transfer them to a freezer-safe bag or airtight container.
  6. Label with the date and store in the freezer for the best quality for up to 2–3 months.

How to cook frozen uncooked egg rolls:

There is no need to thaw them first. Lightly spray the frozen egg rolls with olive oil and arrange them in a single layer in your air fryer.

Air fry at 350°F (175°C) for approximately 12–16 minutes, turning halfway through. Cooking time will depend on their size and your air fryer.

Make sure the filling reaches 165°F (74°C) in the centre before serving.

Freezing Cooked Egg Rolls

You can also freeze the egg rolls after air frying.

Allow them to cool completely, then arrange them on a baking tray and freeze until firm. Transfer to a freezer-safe container or bag and use within 2–3 months for the best quality.

Reheat directly from frozen in the air fryer at 350°F (175°C) for approximately 8–12 minutes, checking that the filling is thoroughly heated to 165°F (74°C).

How to Make Air Fryer Cheeseburger Egg Rolls

These homemade cheeseburger egg rolls are easy to prepare. You’ll cook the beef filling, wrap everything inside egg roll wrappers, and air fry until golden and crispy.

Preparation time: 15 minutes
Cooking time: 8–12 minutes per batch
Total time: Approximately 30–35 minutes
Servings: 12 egg rolls

Step 1: Cook the Ground Beef

Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add the ground beef and diced onion.

Cook for approximately 6–8 minutes, breaking the beef into small pieces with a wooden spoon until completely browned.

Drain any excess grease from the skillet. This is important because too much liquid or fat can make the egg roll wrappers soggy.

Step 2: Season the Cheeseburger Filling

Add the ketchup, mustard, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper to the cooked beef.

Stir everything together until well combined.

Remove the skillet from the heat and allow the mixture to cool slightly. Stir in the diced pickles and shredded cheddar cheese.

Make sure the filling is not too hot when assembling the egg rolls, as excessive heat can soften the wrappers.

Step 3: Prepare the Egg Roll Wrappers

Place one egg roll wrapper on a clean work surface with one corner pointing towards you, creating a diamond shape.

Keep the remaining wrappers covered with a slightly damp kitchen towel to prevent them from drying out.

Place approximately 2 tablespoons of the cheeseburger filling in the centre of the wrapper, slightly below the middle.

Avoid overfilling, as this can make the wrappers difficult to seal.

Step 4: Roll the Egg Rolls

Fold the bottom corner over the filling.

Fold both side corners towards the centre, then roll the wrapper tightly away from you.

Dip your finger in a little water and lightly moisten the top corner to seal the egg roll.

Repeat with the remaining wrappers and filling.

Step 5: Preheat the Air Fryer

Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C) for approximately 2–3 minutes, if your model recommends preheating.

Lightly spray the air fryer basket with olive oil cooking spray to prevent sticking.

Step 6: Arrange the Egg Rolls

Place the assembled egg rolls in the air fryer basket in a single layer.

Make sure they are not touching or overlapping, as they need enough space for hot air to circulate.

Lightly spray the outside of each egg roll with olive oil. This helps the wrappers become golden and crispy.

Cook in batches if necessary.

Step 7: Air Fry Until Golden

Air fry at 375°F (190°C) for approximately 8–12 minutes, turning the egg rolls halfway through cooking.

The wrappers should become golden brown and crispy on all sides.

Cooking times may vary depending on the air fryer model and the thickness of the wrappers.

Because the ground beef is cooked before assembling, the main goal is to crisp the wrappers and heat the filling thoroughly. Check that the centre reaches 165°F (74°C).

Step 8: Cool and Serve

Carefully remove the egg rolls from the air fryer and let them rest for 2–3 minutes.

The filling will be very hot immediately after cooking, so allow them to cool slightly before biting into them.

Serve warm with your favourite dipping sauces and enjoy!

  • ⅓ teaspoon salt
  • ⅓ teaspoon ground black pepper
  • ⅓ teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • ½ cup ketchup
  • ½ cup pickles diced
  • ½ cup cooked bacon crumbles
  • 4 slices American cheese
  • 12 egg roll wraps
  • ½ cup water cold
  • ½ teaspoon olive oil for brushing egg rolls

Dipping Sauce Ingredients:

  • 1 cup mayonnaise
  • ½ cup ketchup
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • ½ teaspoon smoked paprika
  • ⅓ teaspoon ground black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder

Instructions

Make the dipping sauce: To a small bowl, mix together the mayo, ketchup,

  1. Worcestershire sauce, smoked paprika, black pepper and garlic power. Cover and chill in the refrigerator while you make the cheeseburger egg rolls.
  2. Make the egg roll filling: To a medium skillet, add the olive oil, ground beef, and onions. Cook over medium heat breaking up the ground beef into crumbles until the ground beef is no longer pink and the onions are soft – about 10 minutes.
  3. Add in the salt, pepper, garlic powder, Worcestershire sauce, ketchup, pickles, bacon crumbles, and cheese, then stir until well blended and the cheese has melted. Let simmer for about 3 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the filling has thickened. Remove from heat.
  4. Preheat air fryer to 380 degrees Fahrenheit and set the timer for 10 minutes.
  5. Lay an egg roll wrapper out flat and rub some water on the outer edges.  Add 2 tablespoons of the beef mixture to the middle of the wrapper. Roll the egg wrapper up folding the bottom corner over the beef, then fold the outer left and right edges in, and then roll up the egg roll. Watch my video or see pictures in my post above to see how I roll my egg rolls.
  6. Brush the outside of the egg rolls with olive oil.
  7. Add the egg rolls to the air fryer in a single layer and air fry for 8 to 10 minutes, until brown and crispy. Flip the egg rolls halfway through.
  8. Remove the egg rolls from the air fryer, let cool, then enjoy with some dipping sauce.

Notes

*Store any leftovers that you may have in the refrigerator in an airtight container for up to 4 days.

*Reheat in the air fryer at 380 degrees for 2 minutes until crispy and hot.

*I used my Instant Vortex Plus 6 quart air fryer to test this recipe. Keep in mind that all air fryers are different so you will need to adjust the timing based on the air fryer you are using.

*This recipe is based on a preheated air fryer. If you do not preheat your air fryer, then you may have to cook the egg rolls for a longer time (2 to 3 more minutes).

*Don’t over crowd the air fryer. Cook in batches. For the best results, place each egg roll in the air fryer in a single layer without any of the egg rolls touching.
