Making an air fryer grilled cheese sandwich is a simple way to make a delicious meal. Made with just a couple of slices of bread, cheese slices, and butter, you will have a delicious sandwich in minutes.

Making a Grilled Cheese Sandwich in Air Fryer

I love making these sandwiches because they are a delicious lunch with melty cheese in between my favorite slices of bread. It pairs so well with a bowl of tomato soup, cabbage soup, or just a salad, and has almost no prep time.

This sandwich is so versatile because you can change the slices of cheese. Using Monterey Jack,  Sharp Cheddar, to Swiss Cheese, Colby Jack, or even a slice of Pepper Jack Cheese, or any combinations of cheeses, can turn this simple recipe for a classic sandwich, into a gourmet meal.

Ingredients:

  • Slices of Sandwich Bread-I use white sandwich bread, but you can use your favorite bread.
  • Pieces of Cheese-There are so many cheese filling flavor options from Kraft!
  • Soft Butter

How to make a Grilled Cheese Sandwich in Air Fryer

  1. Spread a light layer of the butter on one side of each piece of bread.
  2. Place the buttered side down in the air fryer basket.
  3. Cover the slice of bread with a piece of cheese. Then top the cheese with another slice of bread, with the buttered side up.
  4. Air Fry at 370 degrees F for 3-5 minutes. Then flip, and air fry for 2-3 additional minutes, until bread reaches desired crispness.

I make this recipe in my Cosori 5.8 qt. air fryer. Depending on your air fryer, size and wattages cooking times may need to be adjusted 1-2 minutes.

  • Author: Julia
  • Prep Time: 5 minutes
  • Cook Time: 7 minutes
  • Total Time: 12 minutes
  • Yield: 2 1x
  • Category: lunch, Main Course
  • Cuisine: American

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 slices white bread
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 4 slices cheese

Instructions

  • Spread a light layer of the butter on one side of each piece of bread.
  • Place the buttered side down in the air fryer basket.
  • Cover the slice of bread with a piece of cheese. Then top the cheese with another slice of bread, with the buttered side up.
  • Air Fry at 370 degrees F for 3-5 minutes. Then flip, and air fry for 2-3 additional minutes, until bread reaches desired crispness.

Notes

Make this a heartier meal by adding a few slices of bacon to the sandwich, avocado slices, or on inside of slices, spread bread with pesto sauce before adding cheese.

Depending on the type of bread you use, you may want to adjust the cook times. For softer bread, or French Bread, air fry until it reaches your desired crispness.
