This Indian bread, known for its soft, fluffy texture and rich, buttery flavor, is traditionally cooked in a tandoor. This Air Fryer Naan version is perfect for any home cook!
Let’s talk about a bread that I’ve come to love over the years. It’s delicious, versatile, and really fun to make. Today, we’re talking about Air Fryer Naan!
If you’ve never heard of a tandoor, it’s an urn shaped oven, typically made of clay. Tandoori ovens have been used for centuries.
But guess what? Today we’re going to make our garlic naan bread in an air fryer! Yay for modern technology!
That’s right, this easy recipe brings you the perfect naan with a crispy outside and a soft inside, all made in the comfort of your home.
WHY THIS RECIPE WORKS:
- Easy and Convenient: No need for a tandoor – your air fryer does all the work. The air fryer is one of my favorite kitchen appliances!
- Garlic Butter Flavor: The delicious taste of garlic butter makes this naan irresistible. It adds even more moisture and a ton of flavor.
- Fun to Make: Both adults and kids will enjoy making and eating these. The process is really enjoyable.
INGREDIENTS NEEDED (SCROLL TO THE BOTTOM OF THIS POST FOR THE FULL RECIPE CARD):
- Warm milk
- Active dry yeast
- Sugar
- All-purpose flour
- Salt
- Plain yogurt
- Vegetable oil
- Grated garlic
- Water (for kneading)
- For the garlic butter: chopped coriander or cilantro leaves, melted butter, and finely chopped garlic.
HOW TO MAKE AIR FRYER NAAN:
- Whisk warm milk, active dry yeast, and 1 tablespoon of sugar in a bowl. Cover and allow it to sit for 5 minutes. The mixture should be frothy on top after 5 minutes. If not, start over with new yeast.
- In a separate bowl, add 3 cups of flour, and add in salt, plain yogurt, oil, and garlic. Next, add the activated yeast mixture.
- Now, mix everything together and knead with water (3-4 tbsp) as required to form a soft, smooth, and elastic dough.
- Brush some oil on top of the dough and cover it with plastic wrap. Keep it in a warm place for at least 2 hours to rise. The dough should double in size after resting for 2 hours, if it has not doubled, allow it to continue to rise.
- To make garlic butter – Mix everything under the garlic butter section in a small bowl.
- Remove the dough and place onto a clean, lightly floured workstation, and divide it into 8 equal dough balls.
- Using a rolling pin, flatten the balls into a round shape, around ½ inch thick. Do this one at a time with each dough ball. Keep the other dough balls covered so they don’t try out.
- Brush some garlic butter on top.
- Preheat the air fryer to 350°F.
- Brush some oil in the air fryer basket, place the naan in the basket, one at a time, and cook for 7-8 minutes on one side or until lightly golden brown on top. Do not turn over, cooking on both sides makes the naan hard.
- Brush some garlic butter on top of the naan immediately after removing it from the air fryer. Repeat with the rest of the naans.
