Air Fryer Mummy Hot Dogs

Air Fryer Mummy Hot Dogs

Air Fryer Mummy Hot Dogs are a fun, easy, and spooky treat that kids and adults will love. Juicy hot dogs are wrapped in strips of crescent dough to look like little mummies, then cooked in the air fryer until golden and crispy. They’re perfect for Halloween parties, school snacks, family dinners, or a fun October lunch.

Why These Mummy Hot Dogs Are A Family Favorite

There’s something extra fun about turning an everyday hot dog into a spooky Halloween snack. These Air Fryer Mummy Hot Dogs are simple enough to make with the kids and delicious enough that everyone will want one.

The air fryer makes the dough golden and lightly crispy while keeping the hot dog juicy and warm. Unlike baking a large batch in the oven, the air fryer heats up quickly and is perfect for making smaller batches.

They also require only a few ingredients and can be prepared in minutes. Kids can help wrap the dough around the hot dogs, making this recipe a fun Halloween activity as well as a tasty meal.

Serve them with ketchup and mustard for dipping, or add tiny edible eyes to give your mummies a spooky finishing touch.

Recipe Ingredients

Hot Dogs: Use your favourite brand of hot dogs or sausages. Beef, chicken, turkey, or vegetarian hot dogs can all work.

Refrigerated Crescent Roll Dough: Crescent dough makes the perfect mummy wrapping because it is easy to cut into thin strips and becomes golden and flaky when cooked.

Cooking Spray: A light coating helps prevent sticking and encourages even browning.

Mustard: Yellow mustard works perfectly for creating the mummy eyes after cooking.

Ketchup: Optional, but perfect for serving as a dipping sauce.

You can also use small edible candy eyes if you want the mummies to look extra spooky.

How To Make Mummy Hot Dogs

Start by preheating your air fryer to 350°F (175°C) for a few minutes.

Remove the crescent roll dough from the package and carefully separate it into sections.

Using a pizza cutter or sharp knife, cut the dough into thin strips. The strips don’t need to be perfectly even because the uneven wrapping actually makes the mummy hot dogs look more realistic.

Take one hot dog and begin wrapping it with strips of crescent dough. Leave a small opening near one end for the mummy’s face.

Wrap the dough around the hot dog, slightly overlapping the strips as you go. Don’t completely cover the hot dog because you want some of the sausage to show through and create the mummy effect.

Repeat with the remaining hot dogs.

Lightly spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray and carefully place the wrapped hot dogs inside. Make sure they aren’t touching too much so the hot air can circulate around them.

Depending on the size of your air fryer, you may need to cook them in batches.

Air fry at 350°F (175°C) for about 6–9 minutes, or until the crescent dough is puffed and golden brown.

Cooking times can vary between air fryers, so start checking them after about 6 minutes.

Carefully remove the mummy hot dogs from the air fryer and allow them to cool for a couple of minutes.

To create the eyes, place two tiny dots of mustard on the exposed hot dog area. You can also use ketchup or edible candy eyes if preferred.

Serve immediately with your favourite dipping sauces.

Serving Suggestions

These Air Fryer Mummy Hot Dogs are perfect for Halloween parties, but there are plenty of ways to turn them into a complete meal.

Ketchup and Mustard: Keep things classic with small bowls of ketchup and mustard for dipping.

Halloween Dipping Sauces: Serve with barbecue sauce, honey mustard, ranch dressing, or a spicy dipping sauce.

French Fries: Crispy fries make an easy side dish for a fun family dinner.

Sweet Potato Fries: The natural sweetness of sweet potato fries pairs nicely with the savoury hot dogs.

Tater Tots: Serve with crispy tater tots for a kid-friendly Halloween meal.

Fresh Fruit: Add fruit such as grapes, apple slices, strawberries, or orange segments for a lighter side.

Halloween Party Platter: Arrange the mummy hot dogs on a large serving platter with dipping sauces, vegetables, chips, and other Halloween snacks.

You can also make mini mummy hot dogs by using cocktail sausages or cutting regular hot dogs into smaller pieces. These bite-sized versions are perfect for Halloween parties and appetisers.

How To Store Leftovers

These mummy hot dogs are best enjoyed fresh, while the crescent dough is warm and crispy. However, leftovers can be stored if needed.

Allow the mummy hot dogs to cool completely before placing them in an airtight container. Store them in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.

For the best texture, reheat them in the air fryer rather than the microwave.

Place the leftovers in the air fryer and heat at 325°F (165°C) for about 3–5 minutes, or until warmed through and the dough becomes crisp again.

You can also reheat them in a conventional oven at 350°F for several minutes.

Avoid overheating them, as the crescent dough can become too dry.

If you’re making these for a Halloween party, you can prepare the hot dogs and wrap them in the crescent dough ahead of time, then refrigerate them until you’re ready to cook. For the best results, air fry them shortly before serving.

  • Author: Julia
  • Prep Time: 2 minutes
  • Cook Time: 8 minutes
  • Total Time: 10 minutes
  • Yield: 10 1x
  • Cuisine: American

Ingredients

Scale
  • 10 hot dogs
  • 1 tube refrigerated crescent dough sheet
  • 20 candy eyes

Instructions

  1. Open the package of hot dogs and pat dry with a paper towel.
  2. Unroll the crescent dough onto a cutting board and cut into 4 squares. Cut each square into 10 narrow strips lengthwise.
  3. Wrap each hot dog with 4 strips of dough, stretching the dough a bit to wrap around the hot dog like mummy bandages. Leave a small area at the top open for the candy eyes.
  4. Place the hot dogs in the air fryer, leaving space between each for air to flow. You will likely need to work in batches.
  5. Air fry at 330 degrees (see notes) for 7-8 minutes or until crescent dough is golden brown and cooked through. Subsequent batches will take less time as the air fryer will be preheated at that point.
  6. Remove the hot dogs from the air fryer and stick the candy eyes onto the hot dog to make the face.

Notes

  • Serve with choice of dip, such as ketchup, mustard, coney sauce, or cheese sauce.
  • If your air fryer does not go as low as 330 degrees, cook at the lowest temperature setting available (often 350) and check after 5 minutes.
  • You may use squires of mustard or sliced green olives in place of candy eyes, if preferred.
