Whether you’re hosting a dinner party or simply craving a quick and delightful appetizer, these crispy Air Fryer Halloumi Fries are sure to deliver!
These golden strips of salty, squeaky cheese feature a crispy outer layer and a warm, gooey center. Plus, you only need four simple ingredients: halloumi cheese, flour, eggs, and breadcrumbs.
Air-fried halloumi is much healthier and less oily than deep fried version. They’re the ultimate choice for finger food or a wholesome snack.
While these homemade air fryer halloumi fries are delicious on their own, they become even more irresistible when paired with a flavorful dipping sauce.
Ingredients You’ll Need
- Halloumi – This firm, white cheese has a distinctive flavor and texture, and is usually made from sheep’s or goat’s milk. Unlike many cheeses, it holds its shape when cooked and adds a hearty texture to dishes. You can easily find this Cypriot cheese in supermarkets or Middle Eastern shops.
- Breadcrumbs – I prefer panko breadcrumbs for breading, as they’re made from crustless white bread and boast a larger grain than traditional breadcrumbs. Their light and airy texture ensures they crisp up to a perfect golden brown. However, feel free to use any breadcrumbs you have on hand.
- Eggs – They help the breadcrumbs stick to the halloumi strips.
- Plain flour – It is also known as all-purpose flour, which helps the eggs stick better to the halloumi pieces.
How to Make Halloumi in an Air Fryer?
Although making these Halloumi Fries in an air fryer is very easy, you need to follow a few simple steps to achieve the best results :
To start, cut the halloumi cheese into thick strips, similar to fries. I typically get 16 strips from two blocks of halloumi.
Get your workstation ready: On a small plate, blend together the plain white flour, freshly ground black pepper, and paprika. In a shallow bowl, whisk the eggs until thoroughly mixed. Put the panko breadcrumbs in another shallow bowl.
Take each halloumi strip and first coat it in the flour mixture, then dip it into the beaten eggs.
Cover it in the panko breadcrumbs, making sure it’s fully coated. Then, place the coated strips on a plate.
Line your air fryer basket with silicone paper. Gently place the breaded halloumi strips into the air fryer basket without overcrowding it. Lightly grease the halloumi strips using a brush or spray oil.
Set your air fryer to 400°F (200°C) and fry your halloumi fries for 13-14 minutes, until they turn golden brown and crispy. Flip them halfway through and grease them with more oil.
Serve them while still warm with your favorite dipping sauce.
