2-Ingredient Bagels are easy, healthy, and delicious alternatives to regular bagels and they can be baked in your air fryer for a quick and mess-free recipe.
The 2-Ingredient dough is a bread dough made with only two ingredients: self-rising flour, and butter. No boiling, no yeast, or baking powder is required!
The batter can include additional ingredients for taste, but nothing else but the 2 ingredients is needed for the dough to work!
This dough recipe can be used to make bagels like in this recipe, but also bread, pizza crusts, pie crusts, etc.
It can be baked in an oven or in an air fryer. Let’s see how to make these 2-ingredient bagels in an air fryer.
How To Make 2-Ingredient Bagels In The Air Fryer
There are only 2 required ingredients in this recipe.
Ingredients
- Self-rising Flour: Use either regular all-purpose self-raising flour or gluten-free self-rising flour. If all you have is regular flour, read below on how to make your own self-rising flour.
- Yogurt Of Choice: Prefer Greek yogurt to have the best bagel texture, but you can also use regular yogurt or plant-based Greek Yogurt.
Optional Ingredients
The two ingredients above are all that is needed, but if you want to change the taste of the recipe or make give the classic bagel shine to your 2-ingredient bagels, you can add the following optional ingredients.
- Sea Salt – to enhance the taste.
- Melted Butter – to brush on top and get the bagel shine. You can also use vegan butter.
- Everything Bagel Seasoning – to get the perfect bagel taste.
- Sesame Seeds or Poppy Seeds for a classic look.
Making The Dough
To make this 2-ingredient bagel dough, start by combining the flour, yogurt, and optional salt in a large mixing bowl.
Stir the bagel ingredients with a wooden spoon, a silicone spatula, or with the dough hook attachment of your stand mixer for an effortless recipe.
Let the dough rest in a mixing bowl for 10 minutes before shaping it. You can pop it in the fridge to help it set.
Shaping The Bagels
Divide the 2-ingredient dough into 6 dough balls of roughly the same size and roll each of them into a long cylinder on a floured surface.
Then, gather both extremities and pinch them together to bind them and form a round bagel shape.
Set the 2-ingredient air fryer bagels aside on a plate covered with parchment paper while shaping the rest of the dough.
You can optionally brush some melted butter on the top of each bagel and sprinkle some Everything Bagel seasoning or sesame seeds.
Air Frying Bagels
These bagels are best baked in an air fryer but you can also bake them in the oven (instructions further down).
To bake them in an air fryer, start by spraying some oil in the air fryer basket, or placing a small lightly oiled piece of parchment paper at the bottom of the basket.
Place the bagels onto the air fryer basket and bake them at 400°F (200°C) for 12 to 15 minutes or until they are golden brown and cooked in the middle.
You might have to insert a toothpick in the center to check. If it comes out clean, they are cooked.
Cool the air fryer bagels down on a wire rack before serving with butter, jam, or cream cheese.
