Ingredients
This recipe uses just a handful of pantry staples, you probably have everything at home. Apples and cinnamon are the main ingredients, fillings or toppings will depend on your own preferences. Read on for all details, the precise quantities can be found in the recipe card at the end.
- Apples – I recommend sweet varieties such as Honeycrisp, Golden Delicious, Gala and Pink Lady. They will caramelize and become flavorful without the need for sugar.
- Cinnamon – For convenience I used ground cinnamon, but you can also grate cinnamon sticks at home. This spice is packed with warm flavors, nutrients and antioxidants.
- Filling and toppings – I served mine with 2% plain Greek yogurt, chopped walnuts and a drizzle of pure maple syrup. Feel free to replace Greek yogurt with dairy-free yogurt, vanilla ice cream, or whipped cottage cheese. Pecans, almonds, nut butter, oats, and dried fruits are other great toppings.
How to make baked apples in air fryer
Step 1 – Prepare the apples. Wash and cut your apples in half, then core to form a “cup” shape. Use a spoon to scoop out a little extra apple from the inside if needed, to make more room for the filling.
Step 2 – Air fry. Place the apple halves in the air fryer basket, sprinkle with cinnamon and cook for 12-15 minutes, or until theay’re tender. You’ll know they’re ready when you can easily poke them with a fork or toothpick.
Step 3 – Top the serve. Remove the baked apples from your air fryer and let cool for 2-5 minutes. Add a spoon of Greek yogurt into the center of each, then top with chopped walnuts, a sprinkle of cinnamon and a drizzle of maple syrup. Serve warm and enjoy!
