These air fryer baked ham and cheese sticks are a quick, cheesy, and satisfying snack or appetizer. With gooey melted cheese wrapped in savory ham and a crispy golden crust, they’re perfect for parties, after-school bites, or an easy lunch.

Ingredients

  • 8 slices deli ham (thin but sturdy)
  • 8 mozzarella string cheese sticks
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 1½ cups breadcrumbs (panko for extra crunch)
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon paprika
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • Cooking spray

How To Make Air Fryer Baked Ham & Cheese Sticks

  1. Wrap Cheese in Ham – Place a string cheese stick on one end of a ham slice and roll it up tightly. Repeat for all sticks.
  2. Set Up Breading Station – Place flour in one bowl, beaten eggs in another, and breadcrumbs mixed with garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper in a third.
  3. Bread the Sticks – Coat each ham & cheese stick in flour, dip in egg, then coat in breadcrumbs. For an extra-crispy crust, repeat egg and breadcrumb steps.
  4. Air Fry – Preheat air fryer to 375°F (190°C). Spray sticks lightly with cooking spray. Arrange in a single layer in the basket and air fry for 6–8 minutes, flipping halfway, until golden and crispy.
  5. Serve – Let cool for 1–2 minutes before eating (cheese will be very hot).

You Must Know

  • Double breading helps prevent the cheese from leaking out.
  • Thin but sturdy ham slices work best—too thin and they may tear during cooking.
  • Freezing for 10–15 minutes before air frying helps hold the shape.

Topping Variations

  • Parmesan Crust – Mix grated parmesan into the breadcrumbs.
  • Herb Seasoned – Add dried oregano, parsley, or basil for an Italian twist.
  • Spicy Kick – Mix cayenne pepper or chili flakes into the breading.
  • Everything Bagel Style – Sprinkle everything bagel seasoning over the breaded sticks before cooking.

Make It A Meal

Serve your baked ham & cheese sticks with:

  • Tomato Soup for dipping
  • Fresh Garden Salad
  • Air Fryer Sweet Potato Fries
  • Coleslaw or Pickles for a crunchy side

Pro Tips

  • Don’t overcrowd the air fryer basket—space allows for even crisping.
  • Use panko breadcrumbs for extra crunch.
  • Let sticks cool slightly before serving so the cheese doesn’t ooze out too quickly.
  • These are best enjoyed fresh but can be reheated in the air fryer for 2–3 minutes.

Recipe FAQs

Q: Can I make these ahead of time?
Yes—assemble, bread, and freeze them. Air fry straight from frozen, adding 2–3 minutes to the cooking time.

Q: Can I use other cheeses?
Absolutely! Cheddar, pepper jack, or provolone work well.

Q: How do I stop the cheese from leaking?
Make sure the ham is wrapped tightly and the breading is well-sealed. Double coating helps.

Q: What sauces pair well with these?
Marinara, honey mustard, ranch, garlic aioli, or spicy sriracha mayo are all delicious options.
