  • 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons plain yogurt
  • 3 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons grated garlic
  • 34 tablespoon water for kneading

For The Garlic Butter

  • 2 tablespoons chopped coriander or cilantro leaves
  • 3 tablespoons melted butter
  • 2 teaspoons finely chopped garlic

Instructions

  1. Whisk warm milk, active dry yeast, and 1 tablespoon of sugar in a bowl. Cover and allow it to sit for 5 minutes. The mixture should be frothy on top after 5 minutes. If not start over with new yeast.1/3 cup warm milk, 2 teaspoons active dry yeast, 1 tablespoon sugar
  2. In a separate bowl take 3 cups of flour, and add in salt, plain yogurt, oil, and garlic. Next, add the activated yeast mixture.
3 cups all-purpose flour, 1 teaspoon salt, 2 tablespoons plain yogurt, 3 tablespoon vegetable oil, 2 teaspoons grated garlic
  3. Now, mix everything and knead with water (3-4 tbsp) as required to form a soft, smooth, and elastic dough.
    3-4 tablespoon water for kneading
  4. Grease some oil on top of the dough and cover it with plastic wrap and keep it a warm place for at least 2 hours. Let it rise.
  5. The dough should double in size after resting for 2 hours.
  6. Remove the dough onto a clean working place, and divide it into 8 equal dough balls. Using a rolling pin flatten the balls into a round shape, around ½ inch thick.
  7. To make garlic butter – Mix everything under the garlic butter section in a small bowl.
2 tablespoons chopped coriander or cilantro leaves, 3 tablespoons melted butter, 2 teaspoons finely chopped garlic
  8. Brush some garlic butter on top of each naan.
  9. Preheat the air fryer to 350 F.
  10. Brush some oil in the air fryer basket, place the naan in the basket, one at a time, and cook for 7-8 minutes on one side or until little golden brown on top. Do not turn over, cooking on both sides makes the naan hard.
  11. Brush some garlic butter on top of the naan immediately after removing it from the air fryer. Repeat with the rest of the naans.

Notes

  • The milk should be just warm to the touch but not hot or it will kill the yeast.
  • If the yeast mixture doesn’t get frothy after 5 minutes, start over with fresh yeast.•
  • You can use a food processor to mix the dough for a quicker and more consistent result but be careful not to overmix the dough or it will be tough and chewy.
  • Don’t roll the naan too thin, or it will become too crispy and lose its soft texture.
  • Brushing the naan with the garlic butter before cooking it infuses it with extra flavor.
  • Preheat the air fryer before cooking to ensure the naan cooks evenly and gets that golden-brown color on top.
