Potato skins are a classic appetizer that falls into American cuisine. They are made from potatoes. To make potato skins you have to cook potatoes, cut them into half vertically, hollow them, stuff them with cheese, bacon bits, and green onions, and cook.
The stuffing of the air fryer potato skins must not be the same, you can make it with any stuffing.
Types of potatoes to use for air fryer potato skins:
Russet potatoes are best to use for this recipe. But you can use any potatoes you have to make this recipe. Potatoes are delicious after all.
Baking the potatoes:
You can bake the potatoes in your preferred way. By using an oven, microwave, or an air fryer. I used my air fryer to bake the potatoes. Here I’ve mentioned the time and temperature for baking you can choose your preferred method:
Air Fryer: Preheat your air fryer at 190C/374F for 5 minutes. Poke the potatoes with the help of a fork and rub the oil and salt over the potatoes. Transfer the potatoes into the air fryer basket and bake them for 30-35 minutes or until tender.
How to make air fryer potato skins?
Homemade air fryer potato skins are the best because you can always include or make some changes in stuffing as per your requirement, isn’t that amazing.
Before we start making the potato skins let’s bake them first. Here’s the step-by-step baking process.
- Preheat your air fryer to 193C/380F degrees for 5 minutes.
- Till the air fryer heats, you can grab the potatoes and start piercing them with the help of a fork or knife.
- Then rub the potatoes with olive oil/vegetable oil, and sprinkle some salt.
- Bake them for 30-35 minutes or cook till the potatoes are tender.
Ingredients for air fryer potato skins:
- 2-3 medium size potatoes
- Olive/vegetable oil
- 2 1/2 cups of grated cheddar cheese
- Salt and pepper
- Mixed herbs
- Sausages chopped and cooked
- Chopped green onions
- Sour cream
Instruction for air fryer potato skins:
- Preheat your air fryer to 200C/400F degrees.
- Let the baked potatoes cool down a bit and cut the potatoes in half.
- Scoop out the potato flesh, leaving a half-inch of potato in the skin.
- Rub the oil inside the potato skins, and season with salt, pepper, and mixed herbs.
- Again air fry at 200C/400F degrees, for 10 minutes.
- Remove the potato from the air fryer, and fill it with the grated cheddar cheese and sausages.
- Cook them for 2-3 minutes at 200C/400F degrees, or till the cheese melts.
- Top it with bacon, chopped green onions, and sour cream, and enjoy the air fryer potato skins.

- Bake the potatoes in the microwave instead of the air fryer to save your time.
- Poke holes all around the potatoes so that it bakes thoroughly.
