Big Mac Sliders

Big Mac Sliders

Big Mac Sliders are a fun, bite-sized twist on the classic fast-food burger. Made with seasoned ground beef, melty cheese, pickles, onions, shredded lettuce, and a creamy special sauce, these easy sliders have all the familiar flavours you love in a convenient party-friendly sandwich. They’re perfect for game day, family dinners, potlucks, or whenever you’re craving a classic burger at home.

The Best Copycat Big Mac Recipe

If you’re a fan of the classic Big Mac, these sliders are a delicious way to recreate those familiar flavours in your own kitchen.

Instead of forming individual burger patties, the seasoned ground beef is cooked as one layer and placed inside soft slider buns. This makes the recipe much quicker when you’re feeding several people.

The signature special sauce is what really brings everything together. A creamy combination of mayonnaise, ketchup, mustard, pickles, and seasonings gives the sliders their familiar sweet, tangy, and savoury flavour.

Add melted American cheese, diced onions, chopped pickles, and shredded lettuce, and you have a delicious homemade version of the classic combination.

The best part is that you can make an entire batch at once. The assembled sliders can be baked until the cheese is melted and the buns are warm, then sliced into individual sandwiches.

These sliders are especially good for parties because they’re easy to pick up and eat. Serve them with fries, potato wedges, onion rings, or a simple salad for a complete meal.

Ingredients You’ll Need

The ingredients are simple and easy to find.

Ground Beef

Use ground beef with enough fat to keep the filling juicy and flavourful.

An 80/20 blend works particularly well for burgers, although leaner beef can also be used.

Season the beef with salt and pepper before cooking. You can also add a small amount of garlic powder or onion powder for additional flavour.

Slider Buns

Soft slider buns are perfect for this recipe.

You can use brioche slider buns, dinner rolls, Hawaiian rolls, or plain hamburger slider buns.

For the most authentic-style result, use soft sesame-topped buns if available.

American Cheese

American cheese melts extremely well and gives the sliders a creamy, smooth cheese layer.

You can substitute cheddar, Monterey Jack, or another melting cheese if you prefer.

Pickles

Dill pickles provide the tangy, crunchy element that balances the rich beef and sauce.

Finely chopped dill pickles work particularly well because you get a little pickle flavour in every bite.

Onion

Finely diced onion adds freshness and a little sharpness.

For a milder flavour, use very finely chopped onion or briefly sauté it before adding it to the sliders.

Lettuce

Shredded iceberg lettuce provides crunch and freshness.

Add it after baking rather than before, so it remains crisp.

Special Sauce

The sauce is one of the most important components.

A simple homemade version can be made with:

  • Mayonnaise
  • Ketchup
  • Yellow mustard
  • Finely chopped dill pickles
  • A little pickle juice
  • Garlic powder
  • Onion powder
  • Paprika

Mix everything together until smooth and refrigerate until ready to use.

The sauce can be adjusted to make it sweeter, tangier, or more savoury depending on your preference.

Butter

Melted butter brushed over the tops of the slider buns gives them a golden finish and adds extra flavour.

Sesame Seeds

A sprinkle of sesame seeds over the buttered buns gives the sliders a classic burger-bun appearance.

How to Make Big Mac Sliders

These sliders are simple to assemble and bake.

Prepare the Special Sauce

Start by making the sauce.

Add mayonnaise, ketchup, yellow mustard, finely chopped pickles, pickle juice, garlic powder, onion powder, and paprika to a small bowl.

Stir until everything is evenly combined.

Taste and adjust the ingredients as needed.

If you want more tang, add a little extra pickle juice or mustard.

For a slightly sweeter sauce, add a tiny amount of sugar.

Cover the bowl and refrigerate while you prepare the rest of the sliders.

Cook the Ground Beef

Preheat a large skillet over medium-high heat.

Add the ground beef and break it apart with a spatula.

Cook until browned and completely cooked through.

Season with salt, black pepper, and any additional seasonings you prefer.

Drain excess grease if necessary.

For a more authentic Big Mac-style texture, break the beef into very small pieces rather than leaving it in large chunks.

Prepare the Slider Buns

Preheat the oven to approximately 350°F (175°C).

Keep the slider buns connected and use a serrated knife to carefully slice them horizontally.

Try not to separate the individual rolls.

Place the bottom half of the buns into a baking dish.

Keeping them together makes the sliders easier to assemble and bake.

Add the Special Sauce

Spread a generous layer of the special sauce over the bottom buns.

You can reserve some sauce for serving.

Make sure the sauce reaches close to the edges so every slider gets plenty of flavour.

Add the Beef

Spread the cooked ground beef evenly over the sauce.

Use a spatula or the back of a spoon to create a level layer.

Try to distribute the beef evenly from edge to edge.

Add the Cheese

Place slices of American cheese over the beef.

If necessary, slightly overlap the slices so the entire surface is covered.

The cheese will melt into the beef as the sliders bake.

Add Pickles and Onions

Sprinkle finely chopped pickles and onions over the cheese.

If you prefer a milder onion flavour, use very finely minced onion.

You can also add a little extra pickle for a stronger tangy flavour.

Add the Top Buns

Place the top half of the slider buns over the filling.

Press down gently to keep everything together.

Brush With Butter

Melt a small amount of butter and brush it over the tops of the buns.

Sprinkle sesame seeds over the butter if desired.

You can also add a little garlic powder or onion powder to the butter for extra flavour.

Bake the Sliders

Cover the baking dish loosely with aluminium foil.

Bake for approximately 10–15 minutes, or until the cheese has melted and everything is hot.

Remove the foil and bake for another 3–5 minutes, allowing the tops of the buns to become lightly golden.

Watch carefully during the final minutes so the buns don’t become too dark.

Add the Lettuce

Remove the sliders from the oven and allow them to cool for a couple of minutes.

Carefully lift the top buns and add shredded iceberg lettuce.

Adding the lettuce after baking keeps it fresh and crunchy.

You can also add an extra drizzle of special sauce at this stage.

Slice and Serve

Use a sharp knife to separate the sliders.

Serve them immediately with fries, potato wedges, onion rings, or your favourite burger side.

Tips and Tricks

Use 80/20 Ground Beef

A ground beef blend with some fat produces a juicier and more flavourful filling.

Very lean beef can work, but it may be less tender.

Don’t Overcook the Beef

Cook the beef until it is fully cooked, but avoid leaving it in the pan longer than necessary.

Overcooked beef can become dry, especially after it goes into the oven.

Make the Sauce Ahead

The special sauce can be prepared several hours ahead of time.

Keeping it refrigerated allows the flavours to blend together.

You can even prepare it the day before.

Chop the Pickles Finely

Finely chopped pickles distribute their flavour more evenly throughout the sliders.

Large pickle pieces can make the sandwiches more difficult to eat.

Keep the Lettuce Fresh

Don’t bake the lettuce.

Add shredded iceberg lettuce after the sliders come out of the oven so it stays crisp.

Don’t Overload the Sliders

It’s tempting to add lots of sauce, beef, cheese, and toppings, but too much filling can cause the sliders to fall apart.

Use balanced layers for easier serving.

Use Soft Buns

Soft slider buns are ideal because they absorb the sauce and butter while remaining tender.

Brioche and Hawaiian rolls both work especially well.

Add a Second Cheese Layer

For extra cheesy sliders, add another thin layer of cheese above the beef.

This creates an especially gooey centre.

Toast the Buns Slightly

If you prefer a little more texture, bake the bottom buns for a couple of minutes before adding the sauce and filling.

This can help prevent them from becoming too soft.

Add the Lettuce Last

This is one of the easiest ways to improve the texture.

Fresh lettuce provides a crisp contrast to the hot beef and melted cheese.

Don’t Skip the Pickles

The acidity of the pickles helps balance the richness of the beef, cheese, and sauce.

If you love the classic flavour, be generous with them.

Make Them Spicy

Add diced jalapeños, spicy pickles, or a little hot sauce to the special sauce.

Pepper Jack cheese can also replace American cheese for a spicy twist.

Make Them Bacon Big Mac Sliders

Add crispy cooked bacon between the beef and cheese.

The smoky bacon adds another layer of flavour and makes the sliders even more indulgent.

Prepare Them for a Party

You can cook the beef and prepare the sauce ahead of time.

When you’re ready to serve, assemble the sliders, add the cheese and toppings, brush the buns with butter, and bake.

This makes the recipe much easier when you’re entertaining.

Big Mac Sliders are a fun and delicious way to enjoy all the familiar flavours of a classic Big Mac in a homemade, party-friendly format. The combination of seasoned beef, melted cheese, tangy pickles, onions, crisp lettuce, soft buns, and creamy special sauce makes these sliders incredibly satisfying.

For the best results, keep the lettuce fresh, don’t overcook the beef, use plenty of special sauce, and serve the sliders warm while the cheese is still melted.
