Air fryer stuffed salmon is so soft and flaky that it practically falls apart on the plate. The hot air heats the meat evenly, sealing in the natural juices while infusing it with the gorgeous crab meat filling – this is by far my favorite way to cook salmon!
Not only is crab-stuffed salmon in air fryer delicious, but it’s also a great way of getting more heart-healthy Omega-3 into your diet. Plus, you’ll love how quick and easy this nutrient-dense favorite is to prepare.
Ingredients to make stuffed salmon
Salmon filet (skinless). Salmon is an excellent source of Omega-3 fatty acids, which help with high cholesterol and blood pressure. Choose a salmon filet that is springy and orange-pink, which indicates freshness.
For the filling
Cream cheese. Cream cheese is the base for the velvety filling for this air fryer crab stuffed salmon. You could substitute it for cottage cheese, ricotta, mascarpone, or Greek yogurt.
Crab meat. You can buy picked crab meat in most grocery stores and fishmongers, which means the fishmonger has done the hard work of removing the meat from the crab for you! Picked crab meat has five types; lump, backfin, special, and claw. Claw is usually the cheapest, and it’s perfect for this recipe.
Dijon mustard. Mustard ranges in taste from sweet to spicy. Dijon is relatively mild, with both sweet and spicy notes. You can substitute it for stone-ground mustard if you don’t have any.
Worcestershire sauce. Worcestershire sauce gives your air fry stuffed salmon its deep, umami flavor and an edge of sweetness, which comes from the molasses it contains. You can substitute Worcestershire sauce for a combination of soy sauce and sugar.
Mayonnaise. If you want to add a fresh, herby flavor to your dish, try substituting the mayo for basil pesto!
Old bay seasoning. The main ingredients in old bay seasoning are celery salt and paprika, so you can use these as a substitute if you don’t have any old bay.
Fresh, chopped parsley. With a fresh, peppery taste and wonderful aroma, parsley is the perfect accompaniment to seafood. You could also use fresh dill for a slightly tangier taste.
Sauteed bell pepper (optional). The color of bell pepper you choose will alter the flavor of your filling – red and orange peppers are sweeter, while green peppers are more bitter.
